Contempt case filed against police officers
A petitioner has sought Lahore High Court’s proceedings on charges of contempt of court against the inspector general of police (IGP), DIG of Elite Force and other officers for not complying with orders of Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan in a land possession case.
Petitioner Muhammad Irfan Butt filed the plea through Advocate Asif Awan.
On December 16, the chief justice had directed IGP Inam Ghani, who was present in the courtroom, to return the land of the petitioner occupied by the Elite Force.
In his contempt petition, the complainant cited as respondents the IGP, DIG and SP Elite Force, additional chief secretary home, senior member Board of Revenue and the deputy commissioner Lahore.
“The petitioner has still not been given possession by the respondents and the order of LHC has been disobeyed,” he stated.
He also alleged that the commandant Elite Force had threatened him and refused to give him the possession of the land.
The petitioner requested that the possession of the land be restored without any further delay.
The LHC issued the earlier order while hearing the plea against the alleged occupation of Waqf Property Board land. The petitioner claimed that the land measuring over 72 kanals had been occupied by the Elite Force, although he had acquired it on lease.
