The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) health department sealed around 20 pharmacies over violation of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) Act, 2012 during the year 2020, an official shared on Sunday.
The health teams seized stock of 23 firms while conducting as many as 602 inspections during the same period, he said, adding that the authorities had taken out 18 samples of suspected drugs for analysis and declared two of them fake while two other were found to be of sub-standard quality.
The Drugs Quality Control Board Secretary Sardar Shabbir Ahmed mentioned that the department had lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against two persons involved in selling spurious drugs.
"Despite limited field activities due to the novel coronavirus and other logistical constraints, the staff conducted regular raids at drug stores to ensure the provision of quality medicines to the citizens," the secretary stated.
He further said that around 148 complaints received through Prime Minister's Performance Delivery Unit (PMDU) were resolved during the last year as well.
He also informed that the board was re-constituted during 2020 with Ministry of Health additional secretary appointed as its chairman instead of chief commissioner, Islamabad. The board, after re-constitution, held two meetings wherein a total of 32 cases of violation of DRAP Act, 2012 were presented for a decision, the secretary added.
