LAHORE:

Punjab Prisons Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chauhan has undertaken an initiative to mobilize members of the Punjab Assembly (PA) to inspect prisons in a bid to improve its administration throughout the province.

In a letter sent out to the PA members, he requested them to visit the jails of their respective districts to evaluate the conditions and environment in which the captives have been kept.

Under Section 18 of the Punjab Privileges Act 1972, every member of the assembly is authorized to inspect jail during the office hours, Fayyazul Hassan Chauhan reminded.

Moreover, he said that the minister of prisons as well as the home secretary are empowered by the constitution to nominate any person for unofficial prison inspection.
