Shonda Rhimes’s ‘Bridgerton’ is a major hit for Netflix

Streaming service original trends at #1 in Pakistan

Bridgerton is the first show to debut from Netflix’s biggest agreement with producer Shonda Rhimes that has come to be an instant hit, with 63 million households watching the multi-racial Regency romance in its first four weeks, the streaming giant stated. As reported by Forbes, this makes Bridgerton the fifth-best debut ever for a show on the streaming service, which now has more than 200 million accounts worldwide.

The hit debut puts it in line with recent Netflix victories such as this fall 2020’s breakout titled The Queen’s Gambit, which helped revitalise interest in chess. Not only did people adore Beth Harmon as a character but wished to dress like the 1960s fashion depicted in the show. The sale of chess sets has reportedly spiked due to the series as well.

Rhimes is not only known for the trending masterpiece but also classics TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal. As per Netflix, Bridgerton could possibly fall short of the dramatic famed Spanish series such as Money Heist and the documentary titled Tiger King as the most-watched programmes of 2020.

The trending show is based on novels by Julia Quinn about the eponymous family’s determinations to direct London high society. Rhimes, as the executive producer of the show, took almost three years to make the latest series that seems worth the wait for the
fans.
