
Senate Committee on Interior on Monday directed Islamabad police to complete investigation into the murder of Osama Nadeem Sati, a 22-year old student, by rogue cops of Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and submit a report within 10 days.
Islamabad police operations chief briefed the committee on the killing of Osama Nadeem. DIG Waqaruddin Syed told the committee that a CTD squad chased the car of Osama when he did not stop for checking and opened fire. However, DIG Syed asserted that allegations of victim’s father are being investigated.
The officer said the incident was being investigated and that the committee would be briefed soon as the investigation is concluded. Senate Committee on Interior chairman Abdul Rehman Malik said that the killing of innocent civilians by the police was regrettable. He said that this is not the first time that bullets have been fired at a car, adding that there should be no concessions to the perpetrators of this crime.
The Senate panel condemned and expressed great concern and grief over the murder of young Osama Nadeem Satti by Islamabad police and expressed heartfelt condolences with the bereaved family. Senator Rehman Malik said that Islamabad police is considered to be ideal police but such unwanted incidents tarnish the image of the entire institution.
He said that the incident should be thoroughly investigated from all angles and the report shall be submitted to the committee within 10 days. Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Zulfiqar Bukhari was present at the special prayers for the deceased. The ritual third-day gathering of people to recite Holy Quran and pray for the peace of the deceased, known as Rasm-eQul, was attended by huge number of people including family, friends and political figures besides traders of the twin cities.
Speaking on the occasion, Zulfi Bukhari said that the prime minister himself was looking into the case. “I promise that Osama s family will get justice, there will be a judicial inquiry at the request of the family,” he added. Burning issue The opposition has taken the matter of the brutal killing of 22-year-old student Osama Satti by the personnel of CTD. Meanwhile, the joint investigation committee headed by Saddar SP Sarfaraz Virk has also kicked off the investigation of the incident.
It has penned down the statements of five suspected personnel who allegedly shot dead the youngster while it would soon record statement of the victim’s father. The JIT is probing the fact how the bullets were fired from the front side if the suspect had not stopped at police’s signal and he was being chased by the squad. Further, the recovery of the weapons used to commit the crime has not been made so far.
The investigation team will also carry out geo-fencing of the area after finding out date and time of the fight between the police personnel and deceased victim that led to killing.
