A delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami alleged in a meeting with Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) director-general (DG) Shamsuddin Soomro on Sunday that illegal constructions in Karachi were being carried out with the connivance of SBCA officials.
The delegation, led by JI's Karachi chapter public aid committee president Advocate Saifuddin, maintained that the builder mafia had been operating in the city under the patronage of SBCA officials, who had been collecting bribes from the former and in turn, causing irreparable loss to the city.
The members of the delegation claimed that builders would take money from citizens on account of advanced booking, but wouldn't give them possession of their properties.
In some cases, entire projects are discontinued, they added.
JI representatives said that six to eight portions were being built on a single plot in several neighbourhoods in the city, which affected other facilities of the locality, as well as residents' peace.
The SBCA DG assured the delegation of resolving the problems brought to his notice.
