Twin cities echo with jubilant firing

RAWALPINDI/ ISLAMABAD:

The twin cities echoed with the crackle of gunfire as people celebrated passing away of the Covid-19 year with aerial firing.

The claims of Islamabad and Rawalpindi police to control aerial firing and fireworks fell flat on the ground as the New Year night resounded with sound of gunfire and skies lit up with fireworks.

Rowdy youths, on an overdose of adrenaline, ran amok on motorbikes with silencers yelling “Happy New Year.”

Islamabad police claimed to have deoployed over 2,000 cops to control law and order, while Rawalpindi had detailed 3,000 policemen for security.

The New Year celebration in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad was observed with fireworks at mega shopping malls or tourist attractions, aerial firing, dinners at restaurants and parties were also organised by people at various places.

Most of the youngsters took their motorbikes and cars for wheelies and rounds of major thoroughfares in jubilation.
