The year 2020 has witnessed a myriad of collaborations between artistes from all walks of life. There have been cross-border collaborations between grammy-winning artists for a 'dua' to end Covid-19. There have been virtual collaborations between Pakistani artistes with those abroad or quarantined.
Artistes of various genres have also come together to experiment and produce something completely out of the box. Now, as we enter a new year and a new decade altogether, there is another collaboration we would like to talk about.
Turns out singer Hadiqa Kiani has united with the Lux Style Award’s singer of the year, Hadiya Hashmi, for a song for the LSA. The music video of the track will release tonight at 8pm on the prior’s YouTube channel. Titled Ilahi, the ‘motivational’ song is composed and produced by Azaan Sami Khan, and also features qawwal Fareed Ayaz and newcomer Ali Tariq.
In a conversation with The Express Tribune, Kiani said, “Hadiya always reminds me of my childhood. She’s got a beautiful voice, I call her a little nightingale and she’s become my friend too. I had a wonderful experience working with her for the LSA and I’m looking forward to working with her more.”
About Hashmi’s overwhelming talent, Kiani said, “I feel that if she keeps herself on the music path, she could be the best thing that happens to our industry. In fact, she is the best thing that has happened to our industry. She’s our future, I love her voice, I love her pitch and she’s a beautiful addition.”
Discovered by Nescafe Basement, the then fifth-grader's music debut was a song with Soch the band titled Bol Hu. She delivered a power-packed performance following which, many artists and fans lauded Hashmi’s brilliant vocals with the track being hailed as one of the best from the show.
Bol Hu went on to feature in 2019 Bollywood thriller Malang as well, following wich, ace Indian playback singer Sonu Nigam shared a vlog about how impressed he was by the song in August. In a two-minute clip, the Yeh Dil Deewana hit maker relayed how moved he was by Hashmi's vocals.
