The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday dismissed a petition, seeking to stop the elections of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and declared it non-maintainable.
IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah issued a two-page written decision, declaring the PBC's request to stop the election inadmissible.
The court ruled that the petitioners were not candidates in the PBC elections, nor could they satisfy in their application for stopping the Pakistan Bar Council elections that there was any violation of the Legal Practitioners and Bar Council Act.
The court said in the judgment that Bushra Qamar, a member petitioner of Punjab Bar Council since 2014, challenged the PBC elections.
The petition challenged the attorney general's December 9 notification of PBC elections.
The petitioner could not satisfy stopping the PBC election in the application, it said, adding that she is also not a candidate in the PBC elections.
The decision said that this case was non-maintainable in light of Supreme Court's judgments under Article 199. Hence, the petition was dismissed.
