ISLAMABAD:

The medical and non-medical staff of the largest tertiary care hospital in the federal capital continued on Tuesday their protest against the imposition of the medical teaching institute system.

As part of the protest, doctors, paramedics, nurses and other supporting staff at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) boycotted their duties in the outpatient department (OPD), various wards and administrative sections of the hospital to express their concerns over the hospital administration’s callous attitude towards their demands.

As part of their protest, the hospital staff gathered in the garden outside the hospital.

Addressing the protesters, Grand Health Alliance Chairman Dr Asfandyar Khan said that if their demands are not approved by the competent authorities then they will resort to a complete strike in the hospital.

In such an event, he explained that all departments of the hospital, including OPDs, administration, nursing college and purchase department will remain closed, except for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) and emergency wards. Due to the protest by doctors and hospital staff, a large number of patients had to face hurdles in obtaining treatment.
