Why is Meesha Shafi not showing up in court? Now she has an answer

After Ali Zafar filed defamation suit against Shafi, both Zafar and his fans have been asking her to 'face the court'

Entertainment Desk December 21, 2020

December has truly been about Meesha Shafi. The singer has had a couple of tracks released by Coke Studio and another music show, which has garnered rave reviews and made all the noise on social media.

Soon after the BTS videos of her songs were revealed, many were eager to see what Shafi had in store for her Coke Studio comeback – and boy, did she deliver!

The Reluctant Fundamentalist actor has so far released four new tracks in recent music shows. Shafi had apparently recorded the songs in Pakistan upon her visit. The same visit, for which she has been accused of evading the court and prioritising the said music shows.

Shafi has been embroiled in a legal battle with fellow singer Ali Zafar since 2018 after the former accused the Channo singer of sexually harassing her on multiple occasions. Zafar had subsequently filed a defamation suit against Shafi, and the two have been battling it out at the courts.

The former Overload lead singer recently received flak over 'not visiting court, even after being summoned.' Many took to social media and asked her to face the court.

"Meesha Shafi came, recorded songs for Coke Studio 2020 and left for Canada without appearing in court. After all this, yes, Pakistan is unsafe for women. A country was full of chauvinists," a user shared.

"Meesha Shafi can feature in Coke Studio but can't appear in Court of Law for that case? Just asking? JUST," inquired another.

"The court summoned Meesha Shafi so she takes responsibility for the allegations on Ali Zafar. But she came, recorded songs and didn’t appear in court, even when she was summoned. Seriously, we need to boycott such attention seekers," said one more.

After staying mum over the current accusations, Shafi broke the silence and shared evidence that she indeed visited Lahore session courts while she was in Pakistan. Responding to a tweet, the Waar star shared that she attended court proceedings, not just once but multiple times.

"Remembering this one time when I and Aurat March went to session court for the hearing of Meesha Shafi's case," a user named Wardah wrote, adding, "The strength I saw in the eyes of this woman that day was enormous. Only a few can stand against their harassers with such force. Thank you for taking a stand, queen!"

Emphasising how she did go to court, Shafi retorted, "When I went to court before going there again, and then again.”

She tweeted sharing a picture she had posted earlier from the Lahore Sessions court. "Here’s a picture I took while being STARED AT on one of the mornings I went to court. This is at the Lahore Sessions Court."

Shafi recorded her statement in front of a Lahore Session Court's judge on December 9 last year. The singer had shared the same picture of the city's session court the same day, with the caption, "Lahore Sessions Court this morning, charming scenario! Gave my full and complete statement, if this was about fame or greed, or running away, I wouldn’t be here today. I could’ve easily been sitting in front of my fireplace in Toronto with my beautiful children, uff miss them,” clarified the singer.
