KARACHI:

The Counter Terrorism Department Police lodged a case on Thursday against their former cop on charges of weapons tampering. Head Muharrar Nazir has allegedly been replacing and tampering with statement weapons for the past 20 years and an FIR was lodged in this regard on the complaint of ASI Rizwan after an internal inquiry.

According to CTD, forensic test of police weapons revealed that six pistols imported from abroad were replaced. Similarly, parts of various other pistols were removed and replaced with locally manufactured parts.

The FIR states that the accused engaged in this activity between 2001 and 2020.

It further reads that an inquiry was conducted against Nazir and he was dismissed six months ago for failing to respond to the several show cause notices issued to him.

CTD sources say that Nazir has not been in contact with anyone from the department since his dismissal and this may hinder his arrest. They further added that the tampered pistols were allotted to various police personnel during these 20 years and further investigation would have to include statements from these officers and personnel.

Besides, anyone official who has been the Head Muharrar during these years would also have to face this inquiry, according to sources.
