Pakistan's Covid-19 positivity ratio at 6.3%

Highest number of deaths in Punjab, followed by Sindh

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) was informed on Thursday that the current positivity ratio in the country is 6.3 per cent, compared to 7.2 per cent a day earlier.

The highest positivity ratio was observed in Karachi at 16.59 per cent, followed by Peshawar at 13.34 per cent and Mirpur at 9.40 per cent.

The positivity ratio in various federating units was 11.4 per cent in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), 14.2 per cent in Balochistan, 1.5 per cent in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), 3.6 per cent in Islamabad, 8.1 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), 3.8 per cent in Punjab and 10.6 per cent in Sindh.

Pakistan's Covid-19 death toll jumped to 9,080, with the most deaths reported in Punjab, followed by Sindh. At least 2,505 Covid-19 patients are in critical condition. 

Meanwhile, the highest number of oxygenated bed occupancy in the country was in Peshawar, at 60 per cent, followed by Rawalpindi at 41 per cent, Multan at 39 per cent and Islamabad at 39 per cent. The NCOC was also told that the national fatality rate is 2.02 per cent, against 2.22 per cent globally.

Pakistan passed the grim milestone of more than 9,000 deaths on December 17, with thousands across the country under smart lockdowns as the nation grapples with the second wave of the pandemic.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and other government officials have repeatedly urged the masses to exercise extreme caution and adhere to Covid-19 SOPs to mitigate the spread of the virus.
