Sindh’s Covid caseload nears 200,000

With 1,224 fresh coronavirus cases reported overnight, the virus tally soared to 199,706 in the province, said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday. Another 15 people also succumbed to the virus, taking the provincial Covid-19 death toll to 3,237.

The chief minister apprised that 11,495 people were tested for the virus between Tuesday and Wednesday, of which 10.6 per cent - 1,224 people - tested positive.

As many as 6,952 patients also recovered from the contagious disease overnight, lifting the number of recoveries in the province to 176,337.

There are currently 20,132 active cases in Sindh, said the CM. Of these, 19,227 are in home isolation, 889 are being treated at different hospitals and 16 are in isolation centres. The condition of 799 patients is critical with at least 89 of them on ventilators, added the CM.

According to the CM, out of the 1,224 new cases, 874 were detected in the port city, with 302 from the East district, 176 from Central, 162 from South, 116 from Korangi, 60 from Malir and 58 from West.

Moreover, Hyderabad saw 112 new cases, Shaheed Benazirabad 33, Dadu 25, Sanghar and Tando Muhammad Khan 15 each, Ghotki 13, Jamshoro 12, Badin 10, Mirpurkhas 11, Khairpur, Naushehro Feroze, Tando Allahyar and Thatta eight each, Sukkur seven, Jacobabad three, and Larkana, Shikarpur and Umerkot two each.
