IHC dismisses Safdar’s plea on foolproof security

Observes it is the responsibility of state to ensure safety of every citizen

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed PML-N leader Captain (retd) Safdar’s plea regarding provision of foolproof security, stating that the function fell within the domain of the executive.

The court expressed the hope that the government fulfilling its constitutional responsibility would ensure the security of every citizen without any discrimination.

Safdar’s counsel Jehangir Jadoon adopted the stance that his client had submitted an application to the interior secretary for the purpose but no decision had been made on it.

The IHC noted it was the responsibility of the state to ensure the security of every citizen and that according to Article 199, the court could not issue an order in this regard.

The court further maintained that the PML-N leader’s plea had been put forward before the government adding the authorities would review it.

It inquired about the threat to Safdar to which his counsel replied that it could come from anyone.

Then everyone in the population of 220 million would give an application for security, the court said. Jadoon maintained that Safdar was not an ordinary citizen.

Justice Minallah remarked that unfortunately the state considered some people special and others commoners and added that the court had rejected every plea of this nature.

Later, the court dismissed the PML-N leader’s application.
