Bridegroom seeks wife's recovery from in-laws

LHC asks petitioner to bring phone with video clips of wedding

LAHORE:

A newly married man has approached the Lahore High Court for the recovery of his wife, accusing his in-laws of detaining her during the couple's visit to their home.

Petitioner Waqas Yousaf pleaded his own case before Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan. He said he had married Saira Akhtar on December 6 in Bahawalpur district. He said his wife’s brothers Abbas, Ilyas and Nasir had detained her detained at their house after the couple went there for the first time after their wedding under the custom of ‘Maklawa’.

The petitioner said that when he demanded the return of his wife, her family kicked him out of their home and threatened him. When some elders intervened to settle the matter, his in-laws refused to send the bride with him.

He prayed the court to issue orders for recovering his wife from her family, alleging that her life was in danger.

When the chief justice asked the petitioner for proof of the marriage, he said a number of people had attended the ceremony and he had pictures and videos of the event in his mobile phone. The court told the petitioner to present the phone with the photographs and video clips during the next date of hearing.
