Saba Qamar to Deepika Padukone: Stars who brought gender-fluidity in fashion world
There is nothing like borrowing baggy T-shirts and kurtas from one’s father, brother or husband. In the era of equal rights, equal love and equal fashion, gender-neutral couture is the hot new trend.
Seen all over the world, this ‘fluid fashion’ surpasses the boundaries of sex and has got celebrities from the world over jumping onto the bandwagon. Many popular female figures like Jennifer Lopez, Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid, Hailey Baldwin, Meghan Markle, Saba Qamar, Sonakshi Sinha and Sonam Kapoor-Ahuja have been seen in gender-neutral clothing while male stars such as Harry Styles, Johnny Depp, Sam Smith, Ranveer Singh, Cody Fern and Billy Porter have been rocking feminine styles too.
In honour of this fun –and sometimes, outrageous – fashion fad, here are some of our favourite gender-fluid looks of recent times. It’s all about pushing the boundaries, isn’t it?
Saba Qamar
The Hindi-Medium star carried a matching kurta and dhoti set in off-white tones complimented with a finely block-printed maroon dupatta. Qamar carried the attire with sleek-parted hair and leather khussas, allowing the desi girl within her shine through.
Harry Styles
Unlike many, this former One Direction heartthrob is fond of feminine cuts and colour palettes. Styles, known for his edgy clothing, carried a frothy lace-trimmed Gucci couture number for his solo cover shoot. Amidst immense backlash over the frilly dress, he maintained his peace and happiness with what he finds comfortable. What can we say? Kudos to his confidence!
Deepika Padukone
The Padmaavat beauty is quite famous for carrying the classic pant suit in the most chic of ways. The outfit exudes a certain power and boldness, almost ‘masculine’ in nature. Padukone experimented with menswear with this Loewe matching set in a bold colour theme and stripes. Needless to say, she looked effortlessly wow!
