RAWALPINDI:

Police in Rawalpindi has yet to make any substantial headway in the bomb attack on the crowded bus stand in Pir Wadhai.

Last Friday, a least one person was killed and seven others were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED), planted in a Qingqi motorcycle-rickshaw, exploded.

Police had determined that attack to be a terror incident and had a hand over investigations to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD). The CTD subsequently registered a terrorism case against unidentified suspects while it proceeded to collect evidence and formed a high-powered investigation team.

They found that around a kilogramme of explosive material had been packed into the bomb together with ball bearings while a locally manufactured detonator had been used.

They found certain similarities between this attack and another attack in the city in June.

The CTD geo-fenced the entire area and examined videos recorded by the CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity of the blast sites. Further, the department is waiting for results on the evidence is sent to the Punjab Forensic Agency (PFA) in Lahore to further its investigations.
