The 1,740th meeting of the Punjab University Syndicate on Tuesday has given the approval to proceed against the officers and officials under Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability Act (PEEDA) who are allegedly involved in issuing verification of fake degrees.
The meeting was presided over by Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad in which Lahore High Court Justice Ameer Bhatti and other members participated.
The syndicate members said that no leniency should be shown to those who were involved in issuing verification to fake degrees and such things could not be tolerated at all.
The syndicate decided to form a regular inquiry committee under PEEDA, headed by Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies Dr Hammad Lakhvi, to probe officers and officials in the matter.
The syndicate also gave approval to new SOPs regarding verification of degrees. The Syndicate authorised the vice chancellor to form two committees on a permanent basis for monitoring the cases of degree verification. The Syndicate also gave approval to the proposal to initiate criminal cases in the matter.
The syndicate also instructed to give the opportunity of personal hearing to the fifteen lawyers and decide the matter as per law.
