US ready to help improve Karachi situation: Wassan
Speaking to the media at his residence after briefing US Consul General William Martin on the overall situation in the city, Wassan said the US had offered equipment and other expertise to overcome the situation in the city.

The home minister said the Government of Sindh is yet to accept the offer made by the US.
He said 15 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) will arrive by the end of August.
The Sindh government is giving the police five billion rupees to buy new vehicles and equipment. It will buy 40 armoured personnel carriers.
The struggling police force is understaffed and underequipped, given the size of Karachi city and the terrifying spread of crime.
Wasan said action was being taken against all anti-state elements operating in Karachi and that 101 people had already been arrested during midnight operations.
The Home Minister said he is upholding the policy of reconciliation while taking steps to improve the situation in Karachi.

Great, now its an equipment deficiency..... and lo and behold. i am sure the USA has a super sized water cannon or a high voltage mass tazer device , or lets see some sort of depleted uranium crowd control weapon. Pakistanis were never Indians. It was all under Brithish rule and before that it was all under muslim rule and the famous Mighul empire. All of this at one time was a Persian empire! It was all because of Pakistan that India got its independence from the British. Cheers.

For your information - there was no National Anthem at that but British Solders used to sing "LLARI LUPPA LAARI LAPPA LAEE RAKHDA --------ADDI CHAPPA ADDI CHAPPA LAYEE RAKHDA". Only after partitian both countries had their own National Income.
Therefore, Pakistanis were not Indians before which may be noted.

When Karachi cannot secure its own city and when the police has no tools and high tech equipment - then those hired gunmen will succeed causing a blood bath and mahem crippling the city's daily life. Why has the Police or Ranger been unable to catch even one criminal red handed on the spot so far?? Does not this speak volumes how poorly they are equipped and incapable they are without proper equipment! People. . . . either decide Martial law or strong capable police force with high technology in a democractic environment. Also with this high technology innocent people will not be trapped and the real criminal will be caught right away nipping it in the bud. So there will be no more goofing off as that too will be exposed. Along with this, the public expectation of the law enforcements value and ethics would rise high and will be expected to practice it too. Therefore the law enforcement personnel will have to go through a rigorus traning about Code of Ethics after investing so much in this department.
Get real. We all know our police don't have sufficient equipment to secure Karachi... If you all care SOO much then protect the your self and don't blame the corrupt government.

This is the best help USA can give to Pakistan. Why would any one not grab at the best technology and advanced tools to bring about security and not have both innocent lives including the police force killed? The killer always escapes. This way they would be able to catch the actual guilty culprit and not someone innocent. If the public wants democracy, then they should be ready for knowledge and advancement all at once. Time is not going to wait for any one. Lets give credit where credit is due and be thankful for this help!
What they really need is political will to enforce indiscriminate implementation of law, nothing more nothing less.

This is result of devolution. The subject of US aid too is now delegated to provinces. Now CM of a province independently discuss what aid he needs from US, and US can device different policies to provinces to suit it needs.

@the Skunk: I suppose a lot of people in India support their ethnic Muhajir brothers and sisters in Karachi over native Pakistanis but it's the fault of Pakistaniswho allow the Indian people to exploit the situation there. The US is better off to give money to their allies in the UK who can't control the race and violence among youth there! With our financial affair we don't need fancy toys, English sermons. With local expertise the generic CCTV, surveillance by cameras with face detection a generic software feature bundled should be deployed in the whole city on the pattern of London in the UK. Every corner of London is with the camera, and any activity is impossible to go un-detected. Our Interior Department, Ministry can avail any consultation possibly voluntary from Karachite who would be most desirous to guide, advise a solution with least resources which will detect any individual, being geo-tagged on satellite on the CCTV cameras to find crimes, and criminals instantly. We have one of the best broad band internet which will be reccomended to the Interior Department for surveillance of all activity with generic OEM cameras with face detection, and geo tagged feature in the camera which will detect instantly an individual's location and his direction where he's moved. Involve Community Policing which means the residents of the area for law order, peace duly supported by the residents of the area. NGO's as Shehri could also take part in this with police which has worked with Police Ordinance 2002 for Community Policing a reality today. A turn key loaded proposal will not suit us as it would have multiplying factor of 50 from the generic.
Yes we need US help because we don't have modern equipment. It is strange that most of the commentators here may have written these comments from their Apple Computer or from Dell or any other US-made device but when it comes to American-made cameras and security installations, they will strongly oppose such a move. I have seen most of these commentators in long line of a getting a US Visa :)

It's funny seeing people act as though the offers have any underhanded attachment. I wish people would realistically look at their country. They'd gain nothing from it. Pakistan has little to offer but a single supply route. Beyond that it's self flattery. Yes, the US can improve the security situation in Karachi by sending its troops and tanks which will surround the Three Swords Round-about, also called as Teen Talwar on which Quaid-e-Azam famous words, UNITY, FAITH, DICIPLINE are written.
Teen Talwar round about is just opposition to the present residence of the service provincial home minister Mr. Manzoor Wassan.
At least he will feel safe when the US troops will surround his house, while the poor people of Karachi keep on dying.
