ISLAMABAD:

A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court against the appointment of Flight Lieutenant (retd) Khaqan Murtaza as the director general of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The petitioner, Asim Nawaz, the CEO of a private aviation company, has contended that 600 candidates applied for the post of CAA DG after the vacancy was advertised. He added that 18 candidates were shortlisted and interviewed but none of them were selected.

Contending that the 18 shortlisted candidates were far better than the current DG and fit for the post, the petitioner stated that on November 28, the notification for the appointment of Murtaza was issued in violation of rules and regulations and the Supreme Court’s orders regarding this matter.

He said that the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has imposed sanctions on Pakistan for 188 countries. He added that if the concerns of the world body were not addressed in line with international standards, there would be serious consequences.
