An anti-terrorism court recorded on Thursday the statement of the accused during a hearing pertaining to the murder of a naval officer, Captain Nadeem Ahmed.

During the hearing at Karachi Central Jail, the accused, Saad Aziz, who was previously awarded the death penalty for the Safoora Goth bus attack, told the court that he had been falsely accused and had no connection to Ahmed's murder.

He stated that he had been arrested from his residence in 2015, and the Counter-Terrorism Department police had registered the first 'false' case against him for possession of explosives. He added that he was later nominated for the Safoora bus attack as well as several murder cases.

However, he maintained, these were fake and baseless cases against him.

According to the police, Ahmed was shot dead in broad daylight near the National Stadium in 2013 while his Swedish wife, Dr Tracy, was injured.
