RAWALPINDI:

To introduce transparency in the investigation process and prevent abuse, the district police department has decided to introduce summons with digital tags on them.

On the directions of Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Ahsan Younas, the Hukamnama Talbi (witness summons) for investigations will now carry electronic tags.

The system has been deemed mandatory for all police stations in the city and officers have been restrained from summoning witnesses without the digitally tracked document. Rawalpindi police officials said that the process will enable senior officers to monitor each person who is summoned to a police station for investigation or questioning.

They hoped that the step will help tackle complaints from the public of being called to the police station unnecessarily for questioning.

Speaking about the move, CPO Younas hoped that it will help ensure that the rights of citizens are protected apart from ensuring transparency and accountability in the investigation process. The Rawalpindi police are keen to take every step to ensure that the rights of citizens are protected.
