A Rolls-Royce car, owned by Sir Sultan Muhammed Shah Aga Khan III, will be auctioned by an auction house, Gooding, at Pebble Beach in England on August 20-21, an exclusive website for classic cars said on Sunday. The 1952 Sedanca de Ville was built to the strict specifications of the Aga Khan III and is one of just 18 chassis built and sold only to royalty and heads of state. The car is powered by a 5,675cc L-head inline 8-cylinder engine, possesses a four-speed manual gearbox, a four-wheel servo-assisted hydraulic drum brakes. So numerous were the requests and last-minute additions that chassis 4AF20 took more than two years to build – and as a result, the auction house says, the final cost of the car was “discreetly omitted from the factory records”. General Franco paid around $42,000 for his far-less-extravagant Phantom IV limousine. According to a the auction house, the car commissioned by Aga Khan was “meant for continental motoring that combined the comfort of a drawing room with the luxuries of his royal household”.
