‘Women’s education vital for development’

University of Okara VC says more female students from less privileged families will have access to higher education

University of Okara Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakarin has said the government’s initiative to open universities at district level would help in reduce gender gap education.

In his statement against gender-based violence issued on Wednesday, the VC added, “more female students from less privileged families could have access to higher education through more universities. The nation could not achieve the sustainable development goals without an active participation of all genders, especially women.”

Women constitute almost half of our population and, thus, they have very crucial role to play in the socio-economic development of the country, he highlighted. “If we keep this half of our population uneducated, we cannot expect them to perform their part. Every year, from November 25 to December 10 is commemorated as 16 days of activism for education worldwide.”

As per the university spokesperson, the University of Okara will organise a series of virtual seminars with students and faculty to create awareness on women’s rights during these days.
