Govt launches Rolling Spectrum Strategy

Plan provides future roadmap for spectrum allocation, policy reviews

Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haque has launched the Rolling Spectrum Strategy 2020-23.

Speaking at a ceremony, the minister said it was a major achievement of the IT ministry as it had finalised the Rolling Spectrum Strategy in consultation with all the stakeholders.

He said the government, in line with its vision of Digital Pakistan, gave the highest priority to the issues faced by the telecom sector, particularly spectrum requirement.

The minister emphasised that the Rolling Spectrum Strategy would be helpful to telecom companies in formulating their business plans. “It will also form the basis for 5G technology in the country.”

Haque pointed out that steps were being taken for the promotion of IT and telecom sector in the country. “Transparency is vital in the spectrum auction,” he stressed. The minister highlighted that the provision of broadband services was the topmost priority of the IT ministry.

The Rolling Spectrum Strategy provides a future roadmap for spectrum allocation as well as spectrum-related policy reviews that are anticipated to take place from 2020 to 2023. The publication of spectrum roadmap will help commercial operators with their network planning investments.
