Traders and industrialists in the federal capital on Thursday received a boost after the federal planning minister backed a proposal to set up a new industrial estate in the federal territory and promised to take it up with the relevant quarters.
This was assured as a delegation from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Thursday met with the Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar.
ICCI President Sardar Yasir Khan gave him a detailed presentation on the current state of industrial estates in the city and the need for a new estate.
Identifying a potential location for building the new industrial estate, Yasir pointed to locations near the newly-constructed Islamabad International Airport (IIA).
Umar said that the government is focused on reviving industrialisation to achieve rapid economic growth. In this regard, he said that maximum facilitation will be extended to the ICCI for developing a new industrial zone in the region.
Endorsing the proposal and promising to move a summary to the government on the project, the planning minister said that the government will try to acquire land under Section 4 of the land acquisition act for creating the industrial estate.
