Hackers demand govt to shut down schools amid rising number of Covid-19 cases in the province

A website (https://sindhinvestment.gos.pk/) belonging to the investment department of the government of Sindh was hacked by anonymous hackers as a result of a cyber-attack on Tuesday evening.

The hackers who appear to be students also posted a message on the website which said, “Students' lives are not a joke, shut the schools down now, Students are the real assets of a country, don’t destroy your assets”.

The demand came hours after the provincial government decided against shutting down schools despite an alarming rise in Covid-19 cases in the province.

Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani earlier in the day had ruled out the possibility of an early winter vacations this year owing to virus upsurge.

The provincial minister said that students have already been given more holidays than usual this year and therefore winter vacations would lead to further loss of education. A final decision on the matter would however be taken during the meeting of National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) later this month.

On Monday, Federal Minister of Education Shafqat Mahmood convened a special meeting of education ministers to decide on an NCOC recommendation to announce early and extended winter vacations. However, the decision was deferred till next week after provincial education ministers failed to evolve a consensus on the issue.
