Traders from the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been asked to present their proposals on developing economic zones, which will be established along the new Rawalpindi Ring Road.
The proposals were invited on Monday during a meeting of the Rawalpindi Ring Road Economic Zones Facilitation Committee. The meeting was held at the offices of the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) with the RDA Chairman Tariq Murtaza in the chair. Presidents of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) also attended the meeting.
Murtaza said that the Ring Road project aims to provide a clean, healthy and safe environment to the twin cities. It will also reduce traffic congestion in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
To boost the economy of the region, Murtaza said that logistical and education centres, a health city, dry port, business centres, industrial zones, transport terminals, wholesale markets, amusement parks and residential properties will be constructed on both sides of the ring road. Numerous new employment opportunities will be created and better facilities will be provided to the people, he said.
To achieve this, he said that the project will be constructed in two years on the public-private partnership (PPP) model. He stressed that the business community should invest in the project and enjoy the benefits of these opportunities.
Murtaza assured that investors and the business community will be facilitated in the economic zones
