The concept of digitalisation is the basis of next industrial revolution and important for Pakistan’s industrial sector as well, said Information Technology University Faculty of Engineering Dean Dr Tauseef Tauqeer.
Speaking at a seminar titled “Industrial Monitoring and Automation Lab (iMAL)” on Tuesday, he talked about the importance of industrial automation.
Stressing that competitiveness was the key to development, Tauqeer said that automation helped in collection of better data and improved accuracy of analysis.
He emphasised that the business community should steer automation in industries and devise right process improvements, which would ultimately save cost and enhance competitiveness.
Speaking on the occasion, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice President Tahir Manzoor Chaudhry said that at present information technology was the main source of enhancing innovation in businesses. “In this regard, latest technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) hold great importance,” he said.
He commended the Information Technology University for raising awareness of hi-tech research and entrepreneurship through government and industry linkages. He termed the seminar an excellent learning experience for LCCI members to understand the application of IoT with respect to their businesses.
“IoT technology offers a real-time competitive edge for future through greater energy efficiency, higher product quality, reduction in operating costs, increased accuracy and understanding of consumer preferences,” he said.
“To envision introduction of 4th industrial revolution in Pakistan, these factors are of crucial importance.”
Chaudhry hoped that the seminar would enable businesses to move towards smart manufacturing by harnessing the power of data.
