Sindh records 627 new Covid-19 infections

Pandemic claims five more lives; over 500 new cases in Karachi alone

As many as 627 new coronavirus cases were reported in Sindh on Sunday and at least five more fatalities from the virus were recorded.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's House, the provincial tally of Covid-19 infections rose to 150,167 and the death toll reached 2,684.

Meanwhile, at least 142 patients also recovered from the virus in Sindh, taking the number of recovered persons to 140,550.

According to Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah, 1,728,156 tests have been conducted thus far since the pandemic hit Sindh and there are currently at least 6,935 active Covid-19 cases in the province.

Of the confirmed cases, 6,658 patients are isolating at home, four at isolation centres and 273 people are admitted at different hospitals, said Shah, adding that the condition of at least 245 patients is said to be critical, with 31 of them on ventilators.

As many as 507 of the new cases were confirmed from Karachi, with the majority of them reported from East and South districts.

Of the remaining fresh cases, Hyderabad reported 34, Thatta 10, Matiari eight, Khairpur and Larkana six each, Sukkur five, Sujawal, Naushero Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad three each, Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, Umerkot, Ghotki, Qambar-Shahdadkot and Dadu two each, and Badin, Kashmore and Sanghar one apiece.
