The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (K-PCTA) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) have agreed to jointly work for cultural mapping in the province.
The K-PCTA Director General Kamran Ahmad Afridi said this during a meeting with UNESCO Director in Pakistan Patricia McPhilips on Tuesday.
Afridi said that cultural mapping was a prerequisite for the promotion of culture. The Unesco chief assured support for collecting data and information for this purpose.
“Cultural mapping is a must for the promotion of culture. The K-PCTA and UNESCO will jointly work for collecting data and information and boosting the culture in the province,” McPhilips added.
The UNESCO official further said that taking steps for the promotion of culture as per the culture policy without cultural mapping would be a distant dream.
She said that her organisation would fully support the K-PCTA to collect the exact data and information on K-P culture and take tangible steps for its promotion.
The official suggested that private sector should be involved in cultural events and activities to boost the culture in every nook and corner of the province.
They said that cultural mapping would help in collecting data and information on cultural activities, cultural fairs, artistes, hujras, local sports and events in far-off villages, towns and cities of the province.
