Balochistan assembly: Bills on prisons, prisoners act moved

Two bills on prisons and prisoners act were moved in the Balochistan Assembly session on Monday.

QUETTA: Two bills on prisons and prisoners act were moved in the Balochistan Assembly session on Monday. Speaker Muhammad Aslam Bhootani presided over the session. Balochistan Minister for Jails Sultan Muhammad Tareen tabled The Prisons (Balochistan) Amendment Bill, 2011 Bill No 7 of 2011. According to the statement of objects and reasons of the bill, the Federal Shariat Court by means of its judgment on August 28, 2009 had directed relevant government functionaries to make amendments in the Prisoners Act and Rules to the extent of those provisions that have been declared repugnant to the injunctions of Islam. The statement further said that as such, the amendment in the Prisons Act, 1894 (Act No XI of 1894) are proposed in compliance with the judgment of the Federal Shariat Court. The minister moved another bill The Prisoners (Balochistan) Amendment Bill 2011, Bill No 8 of 2011.
