Cop suspended for taking bribe from prisoner’s family
A police constable has been suspended for allegedly taking a bribe to allow a prisoner to meet his family in the judicial complex.
An ASP at the New Town police station has been tasked to probe the matter.
A Rawalpindi police spokesperson on Wednesday said that they received a video wherein Constable Muhammad Muniris seen taking a bribe from the family of an under-trial prisoner (UTP) who had been brought to the court for his hearing.
Upon reviewing the footage, Rawal SP Mazhar Iqbal suspended Constable Munir and directed the New Town police to probe the matter.
The police spokesperson added that they believed in transparency and that they are adhering to a zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
He vowed that if the crime is proven, strict action will be taken against black sheep in the police department.
