The Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) will host a conference on Iqbal Day - November 9 - to pay tribute to the great poet and philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal, but also to promote vernacular literature.
This was announced by the academy’s Chairman Dr Yousuf Khushk on Wednesday while chairing a meeting of various literary organisations in the country. Dr Khushk said that the academy is working on a literature project based on the 72 major languages spoken in Pakistan.
He added that an ‘Iqbal Ambassadors Conference’ will be held on November 9 to commemorate the poet’s 143rd birth anniversary. The PAL chief added that the conference will be attended by ambassadors and envoys of many countries.
As literary organisations, PAL said that participants of the meeting play an important role in promoting the language and literature of the country.
He added that it will be encouraging for local writers to meet with diplomats from around the world as it will help build literary alliances. Officials from different literary organisations shared ideas about the welfare of writers and the promotion of literature.
