Following the bomb explosion in a Peshawar seminary that killed seven children on Tuesday morning, security has been heightened in the federal capital.
A spokesperson for the Islamabad Police on Tuesday said that Inspector General Aamir Zulfiqar Khan has directed to step up the process of snap checking, especially at the entry and exit points to the city.
“Security has been beefed up in the Red Zone and at government-owned and other buildings in the city,” the police official said.
The police chief has further directed the DIG Operations Waqaruddin Syed and other officers to personally inspect security arrangements across the city. They have been further directed to visit imambargahs, religious seminaries to inspect the level of security there.
Security in the federal capital was already at an elevated level for the visiting Zimbabwe national cricket team apart from processions for Eid Miladun Nabi, which are due to be taken out on Friday.
Team security reviewed
In the wake of the terror attack in Peshawar, security arrangements for the visiting Zimbabwe cricket team were reviewed.
A high-level meeting was held on Tuesday which was headed by IGP Aamir and comprising DIG Syed, AIG Special Branch, AIG Operations, SSP Traffic, SSP Security, Additional SP and all SPs.
The meeting focused on providing stringent security and devising a comprehensive traffic plan. It was decided that elaborate security will be provided to the players who are staying at a hotel in Islamabad.
Further, it was decided that a special commando force will be deputed for their movement.
