LAHORE:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Friday reiterated that she never thought for a moment that Captain (retd) Safdar's arrest was carried out on the behest of the Sindh government.

Addressing Baloch students at a rally in Lahore, the PML-N leader said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto telephoned her after the incident and was enraged.

"He gave me details that will come out during the investigation. I will wait for the inquiry report. Those who have done this should be ashamed," she added.

The PML-N leader maintained that the police "did not have a warrant to raid a woman's room," adding that if it can happen to her, it can happen to any woman in the country. "According to Islam, even during a war, it is unacceptable to treat any woman like this."

Maryam Nawaz further stated that the incident revealed who the real government is, adding that there is no need for any inquiry because everything is in front of the people.

"Nawaz Sharif said there is a state above the state and Imran Khan proved it in the Karachi incident. Everything is in front of the people and on cameras. There is no need for an inquiry."

The PML-N leader said she believes the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is panicking and may leave before January.

The panic of the opponents has made it clear that the government is scared of Nawaz even though he is not in the country, Maryam said.

The PML-N leader demanded that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Chairman Asim Saleem Bajwa step down from his position.

"Sooner or later he will have to appear before the court. Why do you want immunity from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and other institutions?" she asked.

Addressing the students at the protest, Maryam reaffirmed her support for the Baloch students. She said these students should be given their rights and demanded scholarships for the students to be restored.

She further continued that Nawaz Sharif gave rights to students all across the country.

"Students of Balochistan are the future of Pakistan. They have been on the streets for 12 days with no media coverage. Shahbaz Sharif gave Baloch students scholarships and admission in Punjab universities adding that it was a disaster to have withdrawn scholarship of these students.
