ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) approved bail of Bilal Abbasi who was nominated as a suspect in the Red Zone armed brawl between an MNA’s husband and a district and sessions.

A single-member bench of IHC comprising IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah on Wednesday heard the bail plea filed by Abbasi.

During the hearing, the chief justice remarked that the police uniform is a great honour and the honour of the uniform should not be compromised.

The government’s counsel claimed that the prime suspect in the case has been booked and he has been sent on judicial remand by a local court.

Minallah said that the police had earlier let go the suspect from the police station who actually fired gunshots in the sensitive Red Zone.

The court further asked against whom Inspector General Police (IGP) had initiated proceedings. According to the SHO, the petitioner Abbasi was an accomplice to the suspect who fired gunshots in the altercation, it added.

Chief Justice said to the SHO, "Can you show the video of the fight to the court?" He replied, "I don't have it now but the recording tape was in the police station."

Minallah reiterated that the powerful suspect was released by the police from the station and approved bail bonds worth Rs500,000 of the petitioner.
