The Balochistan government would appoint 10,000 persons in different positions in the province over the next six months and the process has already been started, said a government official.
Like other sectors hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic, the Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) functioning was also disrupted as the office remained partially closed and couldn’t conduct tests, interviews, and appointments on time, said BPSC Chairman Abdul Salik Kakar.
He explained the major reasons behind the delay is inviting 7,500 candidates who got through their tests and waiting for interviews. It would take three to six months to fulfill the legal requirements of postings after interviews.
Usually, the process to appoint a person through BPSC takes a year if it has eight members and a chairman, but currently only three members along with the chairman are working. “The appointment of five other members are in process and as soon as the required numbers of the commission are completed, the process of appointments will expedite,” Kakar assured.
Even the chairman position was vacant for five months before Kakar’s appointment due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I understand the agony of these candidates who appeared in the tests and waiting for the interviews, but we are helpless because of the pandemic which has slowed down everything including the official work of the commission,” he said.
A senior official in the Balochistan government said that in the coming three to six months, about 10,000 persons will be appointed on different positions from Grade 16 to Grade 22. “Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan has instructed different departments to ensure transparency in the appointments of candidates against the vacant posts and the BPSC is the only government institution which guarantee that,” the official said.
