PESHAWAR:

The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) has launched the last phase of waste characterisation and segregation study to ascertain its recycling potential. Called ‘Autumn Sample Collection Study’ it is being conducted to quantify and characterise the bio and non-biodegradable or recyclable waste components of solid waste collected in the city. Teams of the WSSP and the Environmental Sciences Department from the University of Peshawar (UoP) are conducting the study. The teams are expected to collect up to 300 samples from across the city, segregate it and evaluate its potential for energy generation, composting and reusability.
