23 murder cases reported in Chichawatni in eight months

Police arrest 70 suspects in violence cases

CHICHAWATNI:

At least 23 people lost their lives due to various incidents of violence in the city in the last eight months.

The reports from different part of the districts revealed that for the last few decades, incidents of murder have increased due to growing intolerance in the rural as well as urban population.

Chichawatni consists of six police stations ie Okanwala Bangla, Saddar, City, Kaswal, Ghaziabad and Shahkot. The police record showed that 23 murder cases were registered in these police stations from January to August. Out of these 23 murders, five cases were reported in different villages within the limits of Saddar in which 17 suspects were nominated.

At least nine suspects were named in two murder cases, in the city police station limits, 13 suspects were nominated in four murder cases within the limits of Kasawal. Five suspects were nominated in three murder cases within the limits of Ghaziabad, 10 suspects were named in three murder cases within Shahkot and 25 suspects in six murder cases within Okanwala Bangla.

Police record showed that a total of 79 suspects were nominated in 23 murder cases in Chichawatni. The challans in 20 murder cases were sent to the courts after the completion of the investigation.

Police also claimed to have arrested 70 murder suspects and sent them to jail. Nine murder suspects were still at large.

Besides, 24 incidents of suicide and accidental deaths were also reported during the period.

Talking to The Express Tribune, local lawyer Nasir Mahmood Chaudhry and Social Figure Malik Mahmood said that various factors were driving the growing trend of intolerance in society which was contributing to such incidents.

They elaborated that the first major motive was the greed for wealth through illicit means due to which all sections of the society were severely affected. “Another factor is a distrust of people towards law enforcement agencies and the justice system.”

The third reason was parents neglecting their children even if they were involved in immoral and illegal activities, they claimed.

“Overcoming this tendency is not a matter for a single individual.

On the contrary, public and social circles, teachers, lawyers, journalists, religious circles, political figures, the business community, the judiciary and all other sections of the society, including the law enforcement agencies, will have to play their effective role in reforming the moral fabric of society.”
