LAHORE:

Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid has said that every move by the opposition against the national institutions would be foiled.

Addressing a news conference at the PR headquarters in Lahore on Saturday, he said that armed forces played a key role in the progress and security of the country at national and international fronts.

He termed the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) a "conspiracy against the armed forces", saying that the movement is being launched under an "international conspiracy" to destabilise the country.

The minister said that armed forces always stood behind the democracy and the government.

To a question, he said that holding rallies was the right of opposition but the law would be enforced in case of any mischievous activity.

He said that coronavirus pandemic and threats of terrorism could not be ruled out in the coming few months when the opposition is thinking about launching any movement.

JUI-F chief and PDM head Fazlur Rehman, Rashid said, would not be able to get anything from the movement. "There is no place for Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari and Fazlur Rehman in the national politics."

Prime Minister Imran Khan has already responded the opposition that no NRO would be given, he added.

Talking about the railways, the minister said that 16 more trains are being privatised and warned the private contractors that their contract would be cancelled, if any contractor increased the fare more than 5 per cent which is part of the agreement.

He also said that all stopovers of all trains and full timetable are being restored from October 15.
