NAB writes to FIA for placing Sharif’s name on stop list

A person is barred from leaving the country once the name appears on stop list

ISLAMABAD:

 The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday wrote a letter to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for placing the name of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on the stop list.

The letter, written by the NAB Rawalpindi to FIA DG, asked the official to include Sharif’s proclamation record in the immigration system.

Sources in the FIA confirmed that NAB Rawalpindi had sent the letter and that steps will be taken for its implementation.

Stop list is a list in which the FIA includes the name of a person who is wanted in an inquiry, case or investigation. The purpose is to restrict the person from leaving the country.

On Wednesday, the Islamabad High Court issued a proclamation against Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia and Avenfield references and directed that it be published in newspapers.

The court asked Additional Attorney General Tariq Mehmood Khokhar to deposit the proclamation’s publishing cost with the dailies.

Through the proclamation, the court asked Sharif to surrender himself in 30 days to avoid further adverse process.

In case the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supreme leader remains absent even after the expiry of the given period, the court would declare him a proclaimed offender and order attachment of his properties.
