RAWALPINDI:

Taxila police on Wednesday booked three suspects who allegedly raped and killed a married woman in September.

The suspects were traced through the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) reports as they matched with the samples collected from victim’s remains.

A police spokesperson said that they had recovered the body of a woman from a desolated location in Taxila on September 14.

The victim was identified as Shaheen while the police had registered a case against unidentified suspects on the complaint lodged by the husband.

The police learnt after the autopsy that the victim was initially raped before getting killed.

The victim’s samples were taken for the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) to get some clue about the suspects.

After this, the DNA samples of 14 different residents of the area were also collected by the investigation team. Among them, DNA samples of three people matched with the traces found in the victim’s body after which Nisar, Umar, and Naeem were arrested.

During the investigation, the suspects confessed to committing both offenses. The offenders told they had eyes on Shaheen when she went towards her home at night. On September 14, they kidnapped the victim and took her to a desolated location where they gang-raped her.

The spokesperson said that the suspects were currently detained in the Taxila police station’s lockup. The police would present them in a local court to obtain physical remand to make futher progress in the investigation.
