The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), comprising all opposition parties, will hold its October 18 rally at Bagh-e-Jinnah, announced Pakistan Peoples Party's Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro on Wednesday.
Addressing the media after PPP-Sindh division's executive committee meeting at the Chief Minister's House on the day, Khuhro said prominent leaders of all the allied parties will address the public rally.
The rally will pay tribute to the deceased of the 2007 Karsaz bombings, stated Khuhro, adding that the opposition would exhibit the strength of their unity with the rally.
A public communication campaign is also to be launched in this regard, he stated.
"This government does not deserve to rule the country anymore. It has made the lives of people intolerable," said Khuhro, referring to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. "There is no glimmer of hope in the darkness that has spread everywhere."
Alliances are made to unite the nation, he opined. "The PDM wants the public to have the opportunity to elect a new government."
The current federal government has not paid a single penny of the Rs350 billion promised by the Centre for the Rs1.1 trillion Karachi Transformation Package, according to Khuhro.
As of now, the PDM's first rally is to be held in Gujranwala on October 16.
Meanwhile, several resolutions were made at the PPP-Sindh's executive committee meeting, which demanded the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The meeting concluded that the federal government had failed to provide relief to the people.
The contentious Pakistan Islands Development Authority ordinance promulgated by President Dr Arif Alvi was also rejected, while the PPP leadership condemned the National Accountability Bureau's inquiries and 'fake cases' against PPP leaders and other opposition parties.
Besides, the meeting expressed concern over the increased load-shedding of gas and electricity in Sindh, demanding the fulfillment of the province's gas and electricity requirements in accordance with the Constitution.
The meeting also sought relief from the Centre for people affected by monsoon rains in Sindh, and demanded that price hikes for electricity, petrol and other essential items be rolled back.
