New mobile library set up at Frere Hall
Modern methods should be used to promote education and reading culture, said Karachi Administrator Iftikhar Shallwani on Monday.
Mobile libraries and learning institutes have a large range, he said while inaugurating the same at Frere Hall. "We have to educate our new generation for it to be able to combat the challenges of the modern era."
Shallwani opined that the youth should be brought back towards books, adding that electronic learning is an effective facility.
The past year was difficult with the city facing many civic issues, he remarked. "Yet we promoted healthy activities and held two marathons."
The establishment of mobile libraries and learning units with the support of Rotary International and other organisations will help the youth read, he stated, adding that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation would continue its efforts to promote education.
Other dignitaries, including diplomats and envoys, also attended the event.
Meanwhile, students from Lyari and English Grammar School gathered at the street library near the Metropole Hotel. The gathering, organised by the Council of Karachi Libraries, aimed at building connections between the students of different schools.
Street libraries are being set up in different areas of the city so that all students may benefit from them, said Shallwani. He urged the youth to make use of street libraries.
