KARACHI:

The residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and Clifton staged a protest outside the Karachi Press Club on Saturday, threatening to stop paying taxes due to the non-approval of their demands.

They have been protesting against the non-provision of facilities and rain-related destruction sine torrential rain struck Karachi in August.

The protestors maintained that they paid the highest taxes but remained deprived of basic facilities, pointing out that even though there were water pipelines, there was no water, forcing them to purchase it through expensive tankers.

They further complained that recent rains had caused massive destruction in the posh locale, but authorities had paid no heed. They added that no efforts were being made to avoid such a situation in the future, despite the effects of climate change.

They demanded the repair and reconstruction of roads, sewerage system and provision of drinking water, warning that they would otherwise stop paying their taxes.
