Poliovirus was confirmed in an 18-month-old child in a village near Fort Abbas on Wednesday.

Despite the vaccine, 18-month-old Ali Waris was diagnosed with the poliovirus. The health authority representatives said the polio victim, a resident of 86 5R area of Haroonabad Tehsil, was tested for polio twice and the report was positive.

The details revealed that Waris was infected with poliovirus in his left leg despite continuous vaccinations.

A month and a half ago, the sample was sent to the WHO lab in Islamabad, which came out positive.

Polio focal person Dr Amir Raza said that the child has been tested positive for Dry Polio which occurs despite the polio vaccine.
