Inquiry against JUI-F chief underway, confirms NAB

Fazl is accused of possessing assets beyond his known sources of income

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday confirmed that an inquiry against Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was underway over allegedly accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.

In a statement, the anti-corruption watchdog said that Fazl could be summoned to get his view on the ongoing inquiry against him.

However, it did not give any date to summon the JUI-F chief and stated that he could be called by NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa office as per law to give an explanation in this regard.

The NAB K-P was holding an inquiry against the JUI-F chief over alleged assets beyond known sources of income, read the statement.

The development comes a few days after opposition parties hosted an All Parties Conference (APC) where they slammed the government and demanded of the prime minister to step down.

Earlier in September, the opposition parties had announced a new alliance named Pakistan Democratic Movement to oust the incumbent government.

Besides holding an inquiry against the JUI-F chief, the NAB had been carrying out an investigation against his younger brother Ziaur Rehman for allegedly possessing assets beyond known sources of income and misuse of power by making illegal appointments.

Last week, the anti-corruption watchdog also arrested an associate of the JUI-F chief for allegedly possessing illegal assets.

Former divisional forest officer (DFO) Musa Khan Baloch, was taken into custody by the NAB officials and presented before an accountability court in a case pertaining to assets beyond means and misuse of official funds.

Musa Khan Baloch is also a member of JUI-F central council.
