ISLAMABAD:

The government on Wednesday decided to reduce the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2.40 per litre for the next 15 days while it maintained the price of petrol at September’s level in a fortnightly review for first 15 days of October.

Earlier, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) had recommended a reduction of Rs1.50 per litre in the petrol price. However, the government did not accept the regulator’s recommendation and instead slashed the price of diesel.

“No increase in the price of petrol and decrease of Rs2.40 per litre in HSD for the next 15 days,” said a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Secretariat. After the reduction in the HSD price, the new price of diesel dropped to Rs104.06 per litre from Rs106.46 per litre earlier. Prices of petrol, kerosene oil and light diesel oil remained unchanged.

Ogra also notified an increase of Rs3 per kg in the price of domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder ahead of the arrival of winter in a monthly review for October. The price of 11.8kg domestic LPG cylinder went up by Rs34 and commercial cylinder became costlier by Rs130. The price of LPG has been raised from Rs117 to Rs120 per kg. Following the increase in prices, domestic cylinder is available for Rs1,416 compared to earlier Rs1,382 and commercial cylinder now costs Rs5,319 against earlier price of Rs5,449.
